aBi Development Ltd – 2018 Annual Report
The Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing sector grew at an average of 2.6% per year between 2014 and 2018 according to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics1. This is below the country’s
population growth rate of 3.0%, which implies that the sector is highly vulnerable to production shocks, especially in the absence of food reserves. A notable development is the growth of the cash crops sub-sector at an average of 6.0%, which is more than twice the average sector growth; and financial and insurance activities (average 8.3% growth per annum). Both indicate that the agribusiness
sub-sector and financial services development have picked up momentum.
